2008 Summer Workshop Information

Format of ABE/ASE Workshop:  The workshops will allow for 10 hours of PD credit.

•         4 hours for the pre-workshop assignment (pre-reading and lesson from home)

•         6 hours for the face-to-face workshop time

ABE/ASE Pre-workshop assignment- Teachers will be asked to prepare for participation by reading some informational materials from home. 

 

 

 ESL Workshop Format:

ESL workshops will be 6 hours in length, but with the Pre-Workshop activity, they will count as 10 hours PD.  Each workshop will cover immigration information, the new Citizenship test, and cultural identity information.  Here is a better description of it:

 

"We will discuss the immigration process, as well as the new citizenship test.  We will also discuss social identity (the sense a person has of himself as a member of all of the groups in which he participates) and how that impacts second language acquisition.  Participants will have an opportunity to ask lots of questions about immigration and the citizenship process, as well as discuss and participate in learning strategies useful for teaching citizenship materials as well as capitalizing on the social identities that our students bring to the classroom"
